Enjoy the Culture & History of New Jersey’s Oldest City
Jersey City is the second-largest city in New Jersey, right behind Newark. It’s known for its diverse culture and long history. In fact, it’s the oldest city in the state. But now that it’s home to countless attractions and activities, it’s become a vacation destination as well!

The Top Thing to Do in Jersey City: Liberty State Park
Liberty State Park is located on 1,212 acres of land in Jersey City and is one of the most popular tourist destinations because of its proximity to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. You can visit both from this location via ferry.
Liberty State Park offers so much more than just access to these two historical sites. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities here, including biking and hiking through one of the park’s many trails. There are places for boating, fishing, golfing and picnicking throughout the park as well.
Liberty Science Center
The Liberty Science Center is one of the most popular tourist attractions. It’s an interactive science museum that offers something fun for everyone. It’s perfect for kids and families, but adults will enjoy themselves as well.
Visitors can view a number of exhibits, including the Infinity Climber Ropes Course, where you can climb up a 60-foot tower, or the Eat and Be Eaten exhibit, which features animals eating other animals in real life! There are also 3D movies shown every day on the biggest screen in New Jersey.
Go to the Hudson County Waterfront
Jersey City is right on the Hudson River waterfront, making it a prime location for ferry rides and river views. There are tons of trails along the water that take you through different neighborhoods and parks in Jersey City. Some of our favorites include Liberty State Park, Hamilton Park, Newport Green Park, and Lincoln Park.
Lincoln Park
The Lincoln Park area of Jersey City is a great place to visit. It is located in the northern part of the city, on the water, and is a very large park. It was originally built as a municipal burial ground and was converted into a park in the late 19th century. The park has many interesting features, including a lake for boating (Lake Stahl), a zoo (the Jersey City Zoo), and one of the oldest carousels in America (the Carousel at Lincoln Park).
There are also several statues within the park, including two Civil War era cannons, two statues of Abraham Lincoln, and a statue honoring Frances Xavier Cabrini (a Roman Catholic nun who was canonized as the first American saint). In addition to these attractions, there are many other things to do and see in this neighborhood. For example, there are several museums located around Lincoln Park, including the Hudson County Museum and the New Jersey State Museum.

Visit Newark, NJ

Newark is known for its old-world charm, but it also has a thriving arts scene and many cultural attractions that visitors will enjoy. Getting Around the Top Attractions of JC
The best way to get around Jersey City is by public transportation, as it’s difficult to find parking in downtown areas and parking rates are high. New Jersey Transit has bus service throughout the state, including in downtown Jersey City. A trip from Newark Liberty International Airport to Exchange Place will cost ca. $2.5, while a trip from Newark to Journal Square will cost around $2.
The PATH Train
You can also take the PATH train from Newark Liberty International Airport to Journal Square or Exchange Place for $2.70. However, this train runs infrequently during late-night hours and doesn’t run at all on Sundays (except for holiday weekends).
Ferry Service
Ferry service is also available between Manhattan and Jersey City. You can take the ferry from Battery Park or Midtown Manhattan to Liberty State Park or Paulus Hook Ferry Terminal, both of which are near downtown Jersey City locations. Ferry tickets are $8 each way and include admission into Liberty State Park on the New Jersey side of the river.
