Hemingway House
For those interested in history, a visit to the Hemingway House is a must. The house was built by Hemingway himself and is now open to the public as a museum. The writer lived in the house from 1931 to 1939, and it contains many of his personal belongings and memorabilia. Visitors can tour the house, see Hemingway’s writing desk, and learn more about his life and work. The house is also home to numerous cats, which Hemingway was very fond of. African Queen Canal Cruise
Step aboard the African Queen for a cruise down the canals of Key Largo. Africa Queen Canal Cruise is a great way to see the beauty of Key Largo. It’s a relaxing boat ride that takes you through the mangroves and into the Atlantic Ocean. You’ll see dolphins, birds, and other wildlife along the way. The cruise is also great for fishing, and you can even spot some sunken ships. The ship leaves from the Ocean Reef Marina at 1:00pm and returns at 4:00pm. Everglades National Park
This 1.5 million acre park was established in 1934. The Everglades National Park is known for its unique ecosystem and wildlife: there are over 1,500 species of plants and animals that call the Everglades home. The park is also home to the American alligator, the Florida panther, and the manatee. The park also offers a variety of activities for visitors, such as hiking, biking, canoeing, and kayaking. History of Diving Museum
This museum chronicles the history of diving, from early explorers to modern day scuba divers. The Dive Museum in Key Largo is also a great place to see some amazing underwater relics. It’s also a perfect place to take your kids, as they can explore the interactive exhibits and learn about the science of diving. Spiegel Grove
Spiegel Grove is an artificial coral reef formed around a shipwreck that lies in shallow water just offshore of Key Largo. USS Spiegel Grove was originally commissioned as a U.S. Navy cargo ship, and in 2005, it was scuttled off the coast of Key Largo to create one of the largest living coral reef in the United States and one of the largest in the world. Today, it’s a popular spot for scuba diving and snorkeling, and is home to a variety of fish and other marine life, including barracuda, moray eels, and nurse sharks. Visitors can view the reef from boats or kayaks that are available for rental in the area.
Dolphin Cove
Swimming with dolphins is a must-do while in Key Largo. Dolphin Cove is a lagoon that is home to a pod of Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins and provides visitors with the opportunity to do just that! You can interact with the dolphins through feeding, swimming, and even riding them. Admission to Dolphin Cove is $39.95 for adults and $29.95 for children. Parking is free. You’ll also have the opportunity to swim with them – all under the supervision of trained professionals!
