About the Musée Marmottan Monet – History and Meaning
The Musée Marmottan Monet is located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, not far from the Eiffel Tower. It used to be the home of Paul Marmottan, a French businessman and collector of impressionist and post-impressionist art. He bequeathed his collections to the Académie des Beaux-Arts, which opened the museum in 1934.
The most famous work on display at the Marmottan-Monet Museum is Monet’s Impression, Sunrise, which was the painting that gave Impressionism its name. You can get to the museum by RER C (station: Boulainvilliers), metro (line 9, station: La Muette or Ranelagh), or bus (lines 22, 32, 52, 63, 70). If you’re going by car, the nearest parking is at Vinci Park (78 Rue de Passy).
