Explore Providence
This is the starting point of our journey. Providence is the capital of Rhode Island, located in the northeast corner of the country. It’s a small city with a lot to offer tourists – from charming historical neighborhoods and excellent restaurants, to beautiful parks and interesting museums. Many of the city’s main attractions are within easy walking distance of each other, making it a great place to explore without having to rely on a car. Here, you will get to admire beautiful historic architecture, from the Victorian Brown University campus to Benefit Street, lined with 18th and 19th century houses. Some of the must-see sights in Providence include the WaterFire art installation, Federal Hill, and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum.
Visit Rhode Island School of Design Museum
For a taste of Rhode Island culture, be sure to visit one of the state’s many museums and galleries. The Rhode Island School of Design Museum is located in Providence, a must-see for art lovers. The RISD Museum has a wide range of exhibits, from contemporary art to historical artifacts, and it’s always changing, so there’s something new to see every time. Plus, it’s right in the heart of downtown Providence and is within walking distance of lots of other great attractions, so it’s the perfect place to kill a few hours.
Climb Up Federal Hill
The hill has a rich history, as it was originally used as a lookout point for the military, and now it is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. There are several restaurants and businesses located on Federal Hill, so it’s the perfect thing to in Rhode Island on an afternoon or evening. Take Part in WaterFire
Waterfire is a must-see for anyone visiting Rhode Island. It began in 1994 as an art project by Barnaby Evans. Since then, it has become a major tourist attraction. This unique event features approcimately 100 bonfires that are lit on the three rivers that flow through downtown Providence. The fires are lit at sundown and burn until midnight, with the flames dancing on the water and creating a mesmerizing effect. Waterfire is held several times throughout the year, so be sure to check the schedule in advance. WaterFire is free to the public. However, donations are accepted to help fund the event.
Admire Newport Mansions
Of course, no trip to Rhode Island would be complete without a visit to Newport. This charming seaside town is home to several beautiful beaches, as well as a variety of shops and restaurants. But one of the most popular tourist attractions in the town and in the whole of Rhode Island is the Newport Mansions. These lavish homes were once owned by some of America’s wealthiest families, and they offer a glimpse into the Gilded Age of American history. Be sure to check out the Breakers, a lavish mansion once owned by the Vanderbilt family, which visitors can take guided tours of or explore on their own. Either way, you’re sure to be impressed by the grandeur of these homes.
Explore Cliff Walk
Cliff Walk is another popular tourist destination in Newport. Originally built as a carriage road by William Vanderbilt in 1893, this scenic 3.5-mile walking trail offers stunning views of the shoreline, as well as a variety of plant and animal life. The walk is also a great way to get some exercise, and it’s wheelchair-accessible. The trail begins at the eastern end of Memorial Boulevard in front of the famed Breakers Mansion and concludes at Narragansett Avenue. If you’re looking for a breathtaking view and some fresh air, the Cliff Walk is definitely worth a visit.
Get Some Air at Narragansett Bay
If you’re looking for a more active vacation, Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay is the perfect place to start. The bay is known for its clear waters which make for perfect swimming, kayaking, and sailing conditions. It is also home to dozens of species of fish, making it a popular spot for fishing and boating. You can also find several hiking and biking trails in the area, perfect for exploring the great outdoors. And, of course, no visit to Narrangasett Bay would be complete without taking in the breathtaking views from one of the many lookout points.
Visit Fort Adams State Park
Fort Adams State Park is a beautiful park located in Rhode Island. The park is home to many historical buildings and landmarks, including Fort Adams, which was used during the War of 1812 and the American Civil War. Pet Some Animals at the Roger Williams Park
